Kurt Zouma and Said Benrahma scored the goals as West Ham United recorded a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in Monday evening's Premier League contest at London Stadium.

The Hammers were 17th in the table heading into the fixture, but the win has seen them rise into 10th position, now boasting 14 points from their opening 12 games of the season.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have dropped one position to 14th, with the Cherries suffering their fifth league defeat of the campaign in the English capital.

Gary O'Neil's side came close to scoring in the eighth minute from a scramble inside the West Ham box, but the home side just managed to clear, with Dominic Solanke and Ryan Fredericks both having half-chances.

West Ham then had a chance of their own in the 11th minute, with Aaron Cresswell's delivery finding Tomas Soucek inside the Bournemouth box, but the midfielder headed over the crossbar.

Flynn Downes and Cresswell had chances for the Hammers in the 18th minute, but the former saw his goal-bound effort blocked before the latter's strike was pushed over the crossbar by Cherries goalkeeper Neto.

Thilo Kehrer was next to try his luck from distance, but the ball flew wide of the post, with the score still goalless heading into the latter stages of the first period at London Stadium.

Solanke tested the handling of Lukasz Fabianski with a low drive in the 38th minute, but West Ham took the lead in the final stages of the half, with Zouma scoring from close range following a header from Soucek.

There was a hint of controversy about the opener, as the ball seemed to strike Kehrer on the hand before it was converted, but it was allowed to stand as the handball, which was deemed not deliberate, did not immediately lead to the goal.

Benrahma fired over the Bournemouth crossbar early in the second period, with the attacker carrying the fight to the Cherries, who were struggling to gain a foothold.

Declan Rice brought a smart save from Bournemouth substitute goalkeeper Mark Travers on the hour, with David Moyes's side very much in control of the contest.

At 1-0, though, the visitors were still in the game, and Jefferson Lerma failed to make the most of a header 17 minutes from time following strong work from Kieffer Moore.

Bournemouth had a shout for a penalty in the 81st minute following an apparent handball inside the box, but the play was allowed to continue inside a nervy London Stadium.

West Ham were awarded a penalty in the 91st minute following a VAR review, though, with Jordan Zemura penalised for blocking a cross with his hand, and Benrahma stepped up to secure all the points for the hosts.

West Ham will face Silkeborg in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night before heading to Old Trafford on Sunday to take on Manchester United in the Premier League, while Bournemouth will resume their league campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. body check tags ::
