The New England Revolution come from behind to beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 and close the gap on the top two sides in the Eastern Conference.

New England Revolution were forced to come from behind to beat Eastern Conference strugglers the Chicago Fire 2-1 at the Gillette Stadium.

The first chance of the game fell to Chicago, but the opportunity to break the deadlock was wasted when Sanna Nyassi headed wide of the target from six yards out.

However, the Gambian would make up for his mistake in the 28th minute as he handed the lead to the visitors by heading in Quincy Amarikwa's cross.

It could have been 2-0 just moments later when Nyassi found space on the right side of the box, but he could only strike the post with a powerful strike.

Chicago were left cursing their inability to turn pressure into more goals just before the break as Diego Fagundez levelled the scores by heading home from Lee Nguyen's corner.

Sean Johnson was forced into action early in the second half to prevent Chicago from falling behind after Kelyn Rowe had earned himself a yard of space inside the box.

New England scored what would prove to be the winner on the hour mark when Jermaine Johnson led a counter-attack before picking out Charlie Davies, who fired past a helpless Bobby Shuttleworth.

Chicago responded well to falling behind, but missed their best chance of claiming a draw when Matt Watson dragged a shot wide of the target late on.
