Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Hull City will be bidding to avoid a fourth straight defeat in the Championship when they continue their 2024-25 campaign with a home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who are 22nd in the Championship table, will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Luton Town, while 15th-placed Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

Match preview

Hull have a record of three wins, six draws and seven defeats from their 16 Championship matches this season, with a total of 16 points leaving them in 22nd spot in the table, only four points above basement side Queens Park Rangers.

The Tigers were seventh in the Championship last season, only missing out on the playoffs by three points, but it has been a struggle this term, and there are genuine relegation fears surrounding the club at this moment in time.

Tim Walter's side have not won in the Championship since the start of October, losing five and drawing three of their eight matches since then, and they will enter this game off the back of three successive losses to Oxford United, West Bromwich Albion and Luton.

Hull will end the month with a clash against Middlesbrough, before back-to-back home games with Blackburn Rovers and Watford at the start of December, and they have to find a way to put three points on the board.

The Tigers have lost their last two games against Sheffield Wednesday, including a 3-1 defeat when the two sides locked horns in the Championship at the start of this year.

Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Cardiff on Saturday, with Di'Shon Bernard on the scoresheet for the Owls after Ollie Tanner had sent the Welsh outfit ahead just two minutes before.

Danny Rohl's side have won five, drawn four and lost seven of their 16 Championship matches this season to collect 19 points, which has left them in 15th spot in the table, four points above their opponents on Tuesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday have only won one of their last four in the league, while they have found it difficult to score on their travels this season, only netting five times in seven league fixtures away from home.

The Owls finished down in 20th spot in England's second tier last season, so there is plenty of room for improvement this term, and there have been some positive signs in the opening months of the campaign.

This contest will represent Sheffield Wednesday's final game of the month, with December opening away to Derby County, before Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers visit Hillsborough in quick succession.

Team News

Hull have a number of absentees at this moment in time, with Mohamed Belloumi, Carl Rushworth, Steven Alzate, Liam Millar, Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Andy Smith and Harvey Cartwright all in the treatment room.

No player has scored more than twice in the Championship for Hull this season, which is a clear indication of their problems, but Joao Pedro's two goals have come in eight appearances, and he is certain to lead the line once again.

Xavier Simons has been another impressive performer this season, scoring twice in 15 appearances from central midfield, and the 21-year-old will also feature in the Hull XI here.

Sheffield Wednesday will again be without the services of Akin Famewo and Olaf Kobacki on Tuesday, but the visitors are otherwise in strong shape heading into their clash with the Tigers.

Josh Windass has been the team's most productive players in terms of goals this season, finding the back of the net on four occasions, and the 30-year-old will again be in the XI on Tuesday night.

Michael Smith is having a strong season, meanwhile, scoring three goals and registering four assists, and the experienced striker is set to lead the away side's line once again in this contest.

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Pandur; Coyle, Jones, Hughes, Drameh; Simons, Slater; Omur, Puerta, Kamara; Pedro

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Beadle; Valery, Bernard, Lowe; Gassama, Charles, Bannan, Johnson; Windass, Smith, Ugbo

We say: Hull City 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Hull have drawn four of their eight home matches in the Championship this season, while Sheffield Wednesday have won just two of their seven on their travels.

It would not be a big surprise to see a victory either way here, but we believe that a tight match will finish all square.
